BERLIN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Thousands of dollars have been raised through an online meal train set up for the family of Easton Thom.
Opening weekend for deer hunting turned into a tragedy when the 11 year old was shot and killed by someone in his own hunting party. Thom was airlifted to the hospital, where he died.
Many Berlin residents and organizations are finding ways to support the family. This includes non-profit group unimaginable hope, which will give all remaining November donations to the family.
Last week, FOX 11 spoke with a member of the department of natural resources for a reminder on hunter safety.
“We always preach treat every firearm as if it was loaded,” DNR Recreation Warden Marcus Medina said. Always keep your muzzle pointed in a safe direction, be certain of your target and what’s beyond it and keep your finger outside of the trigger guard until you’re ready to shoot.”
The DNR said the incident occurred when a 41 year old man attempted to unload his firearm in the backseat of a vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
The school district released a statement, saying support resources would be available for staff and students throughout the week. It also said the family has asked for privacy.
