OUTAGAMIE CO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Schools in Northeast Wisconsin are already bracing for the anticipated cold temperatures and snow.
Appleton and Hortonville say they’re already keeping an eye on the weather this week by attending webinars.
Both districts say they have thresholds for temperature but not for snow when it comes to delaying or canceling school. Rather, Appleton’s superintendent Greg Hartjes says there are many factors that go into the decision.
“We’re looking at the safety of our students and staff. We have students obviously that walk to school, and then safety and transportation so bussing or travel for our staff. We’re going to make every effort to call it as soon as we can. Certainly, the inconvenience that a snow day does cause for a family, we recognize that, so if at all possible, we try to call it the night before.”
Hortonville’s district says that because its schools are located in a more rural area, a winter storm warning is a good indicator that school would be delayed or cancelled.
