OCONTO FALLS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Evidence that a suspect accused of taking the gun from an Oconto Falls police officer and shooting the officer had used methamphetamine that day will be allowed at trial, a judge ruled Thursday.
Alisha Kocken, 30, is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and other eight counts for the Aug. 6, 2021, confrontation with Officer Nicole Blaskowski. Her trial is scheduled for March 8.
Three days after her arrest, Kocken was taken to the hospital for medical clearance related to a civil commitment. Medical records from the exam show a nurse told the doctor that Kocken stated that the last time she used methamphetamine was on August 6 – the day of the confrontation with the officer.
In the three-page decision, Judge Michael Judge ruled the evidence is relevant, and will be allowed at trial.
“The Court further finds that the probative value of this evidence does outweigh its prejudicial effect because this Court believes that the evidence sought to be admitted by the State will not mislead or confuse the jury. The Court will allow the defendant to request limiting instructions to be given to the jury regarding this evidence,” the ruling states.
Kocken was charged after an incident where police were called to an Oconto Falls home. There was a physical confrontation between Kocken and Officer Blaskowski. At one point, Kocken allegedly grabbed Blaskowski’s gun and shot the officer in the head. She was later released from the hospital.
Another motion hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 6.
A three-day trial is planned.
