LUXEMBURG, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Luxemburg-Casco High School is giving a head start to students with dreams of a future in the technology industry.
New equipment was added to the high school’s Fab Lab Tech Program at the start of the academic year.
“Making classes more enjoyable, more educational and more fun,” said Will Simonar, the technical education teacher.
Following the training and software period, he says the five machines are now in full use by students.
“The hands-on learning part is a big component of what we do here at Luxemburg-Casco. We try and get as close to industry as possible,” adds Simonar.
Included are a FANUC Robotic Arm, two Haas mini-CNC mills and an injection molder.
Luxemburg-Casco High School helps expedite the process for students wanting to go into the tech industry. They even have an embroidery machine.
The instructor provided demonstrations of the robotic arm, while students worked on class projects using many of the other new additions.
The new equipment is valued at $38,000.
3D printing machines and laser engraving are also available to students using the district’s existing machinery.
This program aims to broaden the career possibilities for students who wouldn’t normally pursue a technology-related career path.
Grace Kahr is a junior, still trying to decide her career path.
“With all of this equipment here, we can decide if we wanna 3D print best or wood engrave, and it just gives us a lot of opportunities.”
Simonar encourages creativity, allowing students to discover their passion. Through the Fab Lab, he says they’re able to design and create a product that could help determine their future.
Luxemburg-Casco has plans to continue expanding tech opportunities across different industries in the future.
