GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A guest at an east-side hotel allegedly intentionally started a fire in his room, requiring crews to force their way inside to fight the fire and rescue him.
Levon Douglas, 44, was charged with interfering with firefighters, resisting, and disorderly conduct.
He was uncooperative with jail staff, so he did not make an initial court appearance as planned Monday afternoon. Authorities will try again Tuesday.
Firefighters were called to the Days Inn & Suites Hotel at 1125 E. Mason Street around 2:15 a.m. Monday.
Upon arrival, crews noticed a burning smell inside the hotel with light smoke in the hallways. From the outside of the building, firefighters could also see a person in a room with visible flames. Crews were able to get into the room through forcible entry.
In the room, Douglas was silent and uncooperative with officers. There were shards from a broken mirror, and the stove burners were on. Eventually, a taser was used to subdue him, the criminal complaint states.
The fire caused about $10,000 worth of damage.
No occupants of the hotel were displaced, however one occupant was taken to a hospital.
