APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — Appleton’s No Mow May could soon be going away.
No Mow May first began in Appleton in 2020; and allowed homeowners go the month of May without cutting their grass with hopes of giving bees a greater environment and opportunity to thrive.
Alder Chad Doran says that Appleton will only support an ordinance or resolution when there is data to support its existence.
“The science that was used to support this program was done by one of our council colleagues, and was later retracted because of inaccuracies or errors in the data.” said Doran.
Doran also noted that failing to maintain yards for the entire month of May has lead to issues with small animals, ticks, and other insects; and the food sources that bees and other pollinators need comes from wild flowers and gardens.
Appleton’s Municipal Services Committee will be discussing the issue 4:30 p.m. on Monday. More information will be forthcoming.
