(WTAQ-WLUK) — One of the Fox Valley’s largest roofing general contractors is facing over $140,000 in proposed fines for an alleged safety violation.
The U.S. Department of Labor announced Tuesday that Security-Luebke Roofing Inc. in Appleton — as well as subcontractor JJ Roofing in Kaukauna — have been cited for repeatedly failing to protect their employees from deadly fall hazards.
Last October, an inspector with the department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration observed at least nine JJ Roofing workers exposed to fall hazards without adequate fall protection. Representatives of Security-Luebke were allegedly on the site while the employees were at risk, according to OSHA.
OSHA cited Security-Luebke and Jesus Robles Hernandez, operating as JJ Roofing Co., for violating federal fall protection requirements.
Inspectors said that Security-Luebke also failed to conduct a comprehensive site audit to ensure the subcontractor’s employees used the required fall protection.
Security-Luebke faces $140,633 in proposed penalties for one willful violation of federal fall protection requirements.
Additionally, OSHA cited JJ Roofing for not training its workers on fall protection equipment — a violation the company faced in 2018 and 2020. JJ Roofing faces $28,126 in proposed penalties.
