APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — An Appleton tradition is coming back for it’s 10th year, or 10th mile. Get ready for Mile of Music!
Mile of Music is a no-cover, original music festival; meaning up-and-coming artists from all across the country, and some from out of the country, play their own original music and there’s no cover charge for attendees.
“We always say you come to Mile of Music to discover your next favorite artist,” said Kim Willems, the events, promotion and social media manager for Mile of Music.
Planning the festival is no small task.
“We have an artist submission process, but we also work with different agents from around the country, and at this point a lot of it is word-of-mouth,” said Willems. “Artists love coming to Appleton and a lot of them tell their friends.”
After Mile of Music in 2022, the festival received national recognition from Rolling Stone.
A popular feature from past festivals that’s making a comeback at this year’s mile is the Mile of Music Bus. The last year for the the Mile of Music Bus was 2019.
“It’s an actual city bus that drives around with an artist on it,” said Willems. “It’s a very limited capacity, but it’s a super fun way to see the festival from a completely different lens.”
Mile of Music also features a music education team, which hosts various diverse family-friendly programs and activities throughout the festival aimed at helping all attendees discover the music within themselves.
This year features over 700 sets, and 800 total musicians from across the country and the world spread throughout downtown Appleton over the 4-day festival.
The festival is expected to bring over $5 million in economic impact to the downtown.
Volunteers are still needed for the festival; primarily in the areas of merchandise sales and beverage ticket sales.
