TOWN OF LAKE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The operator was killed and a passenger injured when a UTV rolled over Sunday in Marinette County.
Sheriff’s officials say crews were called to Right of Way Road near Maple Crest Road in the town of Lake just after 4:30 p.m.
Investigators determined 54-year-old Joseph La Pierre of Porterfield was driving the UTV north on Right of Way Road when he went left of the centerline and into the gravel on the west shoulder. It appeared he then overcorrected, lost control and went into the ditch on the east shoulder, where the vehicle rolled over.
La Pierre, who was wearing a seat belt, was injured and died at the scene. A female passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. She is expected to survive her injuries.
Marinette County investigators say alcohol and failure to maintain control appear to have been factors in the crash. However, the crash remains under investigation.
