HOWARD, WI (WTAQ) — Brown County authorities released surveillance footage of two suspects attempting to steal an ATM from a Howard bank in hopes someone may recognize and identify them.
Around 1:37 a.m. Tuesday, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office received an alarm trip from the Nicolet Bank ATM located at 2380 Duck Creek Parkway.
When officers got there, they found the ATM damaged but no money was taken. They immediately began a search for the suspects.
Two vehicles of interest were identified via video surveillance. Officers located one of the vehicles and arrested one person. When officers located the second vehicle, no one was inside.
“Both of those vehicles have been taken into custody for evidence purposes,” said Captain Jody Lemmens. “We have one person in custody, and two other individuals we are attempting to locate.”
A search in the area of the I-41 bridge on Memorial Drive turned up nothing.
Investigators have said this incident is related to the Hook & Chain Gang which has been hitting ATMs across the country.
“They’ve coined the phrase ‘Hook and Chain Gang’ because they attach the vehicle to it, and do some damage to the ATM,” said Lemmens. “They break the vestibule open and access the money.”
