NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – With just under three weeks left until it’s here, preparations are already underway for this year’s Fox Cities Marathon.
On Tuesday, nearly 50 volunteers came together to prepare more than 5,000 goody bags for the 32nd annual race. The bags, which will be distributed to race participants throughout the weekend’s events, include samples, coupons, brochures from the race sponsors and other complimentary items.
“These goody bags are for our Kids Fun Run, Diaper Dash, and Toddler Trot, our 5K and 10K… and the full, half, and relay marathons,” Marathon Race Director Julie Johnson explained. She said the Fox Cities Marathon is “a great way to be a part of your community, whether you’re volunteering or participating.”
Cathy Mutschler, a volunteer coordinator, said volunteers are what makes the races possible.
“We could not hold the Fox Cities Marathon weekend of events without our volunteers. We need up to 2,300 volunteers to make race weekend a success, and every one of them is critical to the success.”
Race weekend kicks off on Friday, Sept. 15th and runs through Sunday, Sept. 17. A full schedule of events can be found on the Fox Cities Marathon website.
