FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Julius Freeman was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison for the murder of Benzel Rose. He can first ask for parole after 35 years.
Earlier this year, a jury convicted Freeman, 24, of being party to the crime of first-degree intentional homicide for the Oct. 17, 2021, murder. The shooting happened in the 300 block of 8th Street.
The other suspect, Eric Perry, is scheduled to stand trial March 25.
According to the criminal complaint, Freeman and Perry killed Rose during an armed robbery. Prosecutors say Freeman and Perry took cash and a gun from Rose, then Perry allegedly shot him in the head.
Freeman was also sentenced to 25 years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision for the armed robbery conviction, but that will be served at the same time as the murder sentence.
