GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – For a second straight year, Green Bay’s city council spent an evening feeding the homeless.
Council members prepared and served the meal at New Community Shelter Wednesday. Organizers said the goal is to work together outside of city hall while also learning more about the homeless community.
Former Green Bay mayor Jim Schmitt, who now serves as the shelter’s community outreach coordinator, said volunteer groups help make providing the daily meal possible.
“Even though there’s some political differences, to all come together and really help the homeless community, it’s very important that we do that, and I think they’re going to find this very rewarding,” Schmitt said.
He added the shelter serves 150 to 200 people each meal.
