(LAWRENCE ATHLETICS) APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University men’s hockey team dropped a 4-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association decision to No. 7 Adrian College on Friday at the Appleton Ice Center.
Adrian (4-3-0, 1-2-0 NCHA) broke open a tight game with with two goals in the final nine minutes of the third period.
The Bulldogs led 2-1 heading to the third period, and Ian Amsbaugh scored with 9:22 remaining for a two-goal advantage. Adrian added an empty-net goal with 1:32 remaining for the final margin.
Lawrence (3-3-1, 2-2-1) grabbed the early lead with a first-period goal. Alex Hollands scored off his own rebound at the 12:09 mark of the opening period. Cristian Tallarico and Robby Pustulka picked up assists on Hollands’ goal.
Adrian tied it on the power play with 1:43 left in the first period and then added another power-play goal at the 13:38 mark of the second for a 2-1 advantage. The Bulldogs went 2-for-3 on the power play, and Lawrence was 0-for-3.
Nolan Mahaffey made 30 saves for the Vikings, and Dershahn Stewart stopped 19 shots for Adrian.
The teams wrap up the series on Saturday afternoon.
