Some poultry farmers have issues with mite infestations, especially the northern fowl mite. One way to fix this was a new insect detection gadget…basically a chicken fitbit.
There were some scientists that decided to put this together and it’s pretty interesting how they made it. They put motion sensors in these small backpacks that were placed on the chickens. This helped recognize what the normal movements of chickens are. After that, they trained a computer to recognize the motions as well.
These little devices can now alert farmers when it’s time to check their chickens for mites and other issues.
Chicken fitbits. At least something good has come from 2020!
