LAWRENCE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new development in the town of Lawrence took a step in the right direction Wednesday.
The town’s Planning and Zoning Board approved a preliminary outline of the Lawrence Town Center — a 153-acre, $215 million housing, commercial and recreational development.
The mixed-use neighborhood would fill a now-vacant plot of land between Interstate 41, Williams Grant Drive and Freedom Road.
Plans include a six-acre lake with two-acre island, 110 single-family homes, 45 townhouses and mixed-use buildings with first-floor retail and upper-level housing. The proposal includes 30 acres of green space with three miles of walking trails, a community center, picnic pavilion, playground, splash pad, dog park, and pickleball and basketball courts.
One project leader said the support on this development is strong and they are willing to work to address any concerns residents might have.
“I think they’re all addressable. I think that support’s high. But also, we’re very aware of what the community may want us to address. And we’re addressing them. So, we’re pretty happy about that,” said Jim Ostrom, a partner in the Lawrence Town Center development.
The project would be developed in phases over 10 years.
