OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Lawsuits against Roblox are coming from all across the country, including right here in Northeast Wisconsin.
The suits allege the company was negligent when it comes to the safety of the children who use the platform.
In December, a judge ruled the facts of many of the lawsuits are similar enough to be classified as a multidistrict litigation. The legal structure appears similar to a class action lawsuit, but there are differences.
“The damages are going to be different with cases in the MDL, because some of the harm differs from one plaintiff to the next,” said Jamie Powers, an attorney from Dolman Law Group.
Powers noted the consolidation shows families there’s a clear path forward.
A young victim from Outagamie County and her family are part of the lawsuit, but they are remaining anonymous. The 5-year-old girl is being identified as Jane Doe.
Her parents allege their daughter was targeted by predators while playing Roblox.
“Believing there were proper safeguards in place, Doe’s mother allowed her young daughter to use the online gaming platform, trusting Roblox’s representations of child safety. During her daughter’s usage in 2025, it’s alleged five-year-old Doe unknowingly encountered dangerous male predators — masquerading as children — who began grooming Doe. Eventually gaining her trust, it claims the predators would intensify their grooming tactics by sending the child sexually explicit messages and images of themselves while manipulating Doe into reciprocating with graphic images and videos of herself including touching her genitals,” the lawsuit states.
Through Powers, Doe’s mother provided a statement which reads:
As her mother, I can say we’re doing the best we can to move forward. We’ve been talking a lot as a family, working through emotions and leaning on the people around us who support us. We’re trying to keep some sense of normalcy for her by staying busy with activities she enjoys, like extracurricular activities and even trips to a water park. She’s also started with a new therapist. We’re taking it one day at a time. But the truth is, what happened has had a lasting impact on her. She was exposed to sexual content far too young, and that’s something you can’t undo. As her parent, I’m doing everything I can to support her and help her feel safe again.
Now that our case is part of the MDL, my hope is that this brings more awareness to the real dangers kids face on platforms like Roblox. I don’t want any other family to go through this. At the same time, we’re ready for this to be resolved so we can put it behind us and focus fully on our daughter and her healing.
What I want to see from Roblox is real action. They need to monitor what’s happening more closely and put stronger protections in place for kids. Roblox knows how motivated children are to buy Robux, and they need to be honest about how that system can be used to manipulate and exploit kids. As a parent, I had no idea how big of a role that played, and that’s something that needs to change if they truly want to keep children safe.
Powers says Roblox recently introduced new safety features, one of which is a facial age estimation tool that assigns users into groups of the same age. Once that verification is complete, it will only allow you to chat with others of that age. According to Roblox, the age estimation model achieves a mean absolute error of 1.4 years for minors under 18.

“Our firm, and also the clients who we’ve spoken to about them, have said this is not enough. It’s too little, too late,” said Powers.
The cases have been assigned to Judge Richard Seeborg in Northern California. Powers said she expects the next case management conference will be coming up in the next month.
