(LEARFIELD/WNFL) – The NFL Draft kicks off tonight and the Packers’ role in Round 1.
Unless they find a way to trade into, they’ll be watching just like fans do.
NFL Draft Analyst Sam Bruchaus from Sumer Sports said that the Packers can still get a good player at 52.
Bruchaus was asked who should the Packers pick to replace Malik Willis at quarterback.
Bruchaus said then when the Packers pick comes up, they should strongly consider Indiana corner D’Angelo Ponds.
Packer GM Brian Gutekunst said that the Packers will keep a close eye on day one activity, even without a first round pick.
Gutekunst’s last 2 drafts: Green Bay had six picks from the 2025 draft class play in a game as a rookie with five seeing action in 11-plus contests and two starting five-plus contests: WR Matthew Golden (five) and G/T AnthonyBelton (seven). Four players also saw action in the playoffs withBelton starting.
The 11-player class of 2024 saw nine players appear in a game, four play 13-plus games, seven play six-plus games and three record fourplus starts: LB Edgerrin Cooper (four), S Javon Bullard (11), S Evan Williams (six). Six players also played in the postseason with Cooper and Williams starting. Both Cooper and Williams were selected to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie team. Cooper was the only player in the NFL in 2024 with 75-plus tackles, 13-plus tackles for a loss, three-plus sacks, an interception, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.
Packers will make a pick from Ireland: With the 2026 NFL Draft roles into Saturday, the Green Bay Packers are set to bring a distinct Irish flair to one of American football’s biggest stages. On Saturday, April 25, the team will announce a Day 3 selection live from the Irish Institute of Music and Song in Dublin, highlighting the passion of Packers fans in Ireland and celebrating the country’s rich musical heritage.
Acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter Gavin James will take part in the festivities alongside young musicians from the Institute playing the traditional Irish harp. The group will add a uniquely Irish touch to the moment, performing ESPN’s iconic “The Pick is In” chime as the broadcast cuts to Green Bay’s pick, followed by a harp rendition of “Go Pack Go” as the selection is announced. The round of the Draft in which the pick will take place is still to be determined. James will announce the selection, if timing allows.
Baldwin all about the fans: US Senator Tammy Baldwin has introduced federal legislation requiring all NFL games to be available to fans of a team. When Green Bay blew an 18-point lead against the Chicago Bears in the playoffs, the game was broadcast only on Amazon Prime. Baldwin says two million Packer fans had no access without a Prime subscription, and that is the inspiration for her bill. WITI-TV reports that the Packers don’t support the veteran lawmaker’s so-called “For the Fans Act.”
