(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) MEQUON – St. Norbert College fell victim to big innings in both ends of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Concordia University Wisconsin, falling 12-5 and 10-2 at Catalyst Park.
St. Norbert trailed 6-5 in the opener before the Falcons pulled away with a six-run sixth inning. The Green Knights were then tied with Concordia 2-2 before the host scored six times in the fourth inning to take control.
Concordia scored four times in the second inning of the opener before the Green Knights countered with four runs in the third inning thanks to a pair of two-run home runs from Elly Kirst (pictured) and Ava Engwall. The Falcons picked up a run in the fourth before the Green Knights tied it at 5-5 on an RBI double from Allison Ardito in the fifth. Concordia got a run in the fifth and then six in the sixth to lock up the win.
Ardito was 2-for-3 for the Green Knights, who had seven hits. Addison Luebke took the loss, allowing three runs in two innings of relief.
In Game 2, the Green Knights took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run from Ardito in the second inning. Concordia scored twice in the third inning before the Green Knights made it 2-2 in the fourth on an RBI double by Kirst. The Falcons pulled away with two six runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth.
Ardito and Grendel Sprong were both 2-for-3, while Kirst was 2-for-4. Addison Maurer took the loss in 3 1/3 innings pitched of relief.
