Robert Chilcote (Marinette Co. Jail)
BUFFALO, MN (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Minnesota case against Robert Chilcote – who allegedly killed Gabriella Cartagena in Marinette on Feb. 4 before fleeing to Minnesota – remains on hold.
Chilcote was arrested in Wright County, Minnesota, after allegedly killing Cartagena in Wisconsin, dumping her body in Michigan, and fleeing west. Chilcote is charged with eluding police in Minnesota after a pursuit which topped 100 miles per hour. He also faces an assault charge.
In court Friday, Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes said he expects the Minnesota case to be stayed while the prosecution in Marinette proceeds.
Chilcote was expected to appear for Friday’s hearing by video, but that did not happen. As a result, another hearing was scheduled for May 29.
Minnesota court rules do not allow media to use video from the hearing.
Chilcote returns to a Marinette County courtroom on May 6 for an arraignment on the first-degree intentional homicide case.
No charges have been filed in Menominee County, Mich., in connection with the disposal of Cartagena’s body.
