APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Andi Anthony was convicted Thursday of crashing a vehicle into a Grand Chute house while fleeing from police.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 1.
Anthony, 32, pleaded no contest to second-degree reckless injury and use of a vehicle while using a controlled substance. Several other counts were dismissed as part of the plea deal. The state will recommend at least 6.5 years in prison, though the parties are discussing other options.
According to the criminal complaint, on Dec. 9, 2024, drug investigators saw Anthony and a male passenger get into a suspect car outside a Grand Chute business. The officer followed the car, and after seeing the driver improperly stop at a stop sign, the officer tried to pull the car over.
The driver sped off, at one point reaching an estimated 80 mph in a 30 mph zone on Capitol Drive. The officer turned off his lights and siren when he lost sight of the car. A few minutes later, the car crashed into the attached garage of a house in the 3100 block of W. Capitol Drive. Witnesses said the two people in the vehicle ran away from the scene.
A little more than an hour later, Anthony and the passenger were found hiding in a shed. After being taken to the hospital, the passenger told police he had suffered injuries, including a broken pelvis. At the scene of the crash, police found hypodermic needles, the overdose-reversing medication naloxone and cash that had apparently fallen out of the car.
Previously, Anthony was sentenced to 10 years in prison for supplying the drugs used in a fatal overdose in Waupaca County.
