GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – There is a Monday deadline to finalize a lease to relocate coal pile operations from downtown Green Bay to the mouth of the Fox River, but, so far, neither side is offering any definitive updates.
Brown County has been negotiating with C. Reiss, the operator of the coal piles operation, to move the coal piles to the Fox River Terminal. Salt from that terminal would then be moved to the county’s new port at the former Pulliam Power Plant site.
The County Board approved a proposed lease April 21, setting a May 4 deadline for the company to accept the terms. If it’s not approved, the two sides would head to binding arbitration.
Monday morning, a Reiss spokesman said, “No update right now; will let you know if we have updates going forward.”
Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach says negotiations were still going on as of Monday morning.
The county hopes to have the site ready by 2028 or 2029. As for what could replace the coal piles, C. Reiss has said it plans to redevelop 10 acres for mixed use and the remaining 25 acres will be for light industrial use.
