Downtown Appleton
APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Appleton is encouraging the community to explore the city with a new scavenger hunt.
The Discover Appleton Challenge is a free, interactive scavenger hunt that combines exploration, learning, and fun while introducing families, students, and adults to the city departments, parks, facilities, and services that shape the community every day.
Available now through October 31, 2026, the Discover Appleton Challenge encourages participants to complete fun and educational missions using the GooseChase app. Players can participate on their own time, at their own pace, while discovering parks, facilities, public art, and the many city departments that help keep Appleton running every day.
Participants will complete a mix of “In Place” missions that can be done from home or in a classroom through internet searches, along with interactive missions that send players out into the community to take photos, videos, and explore locations throughout the city.
Missions feature departments including Police, Fire, Parks and Recreation, Mayor’s Office, Public Works, Valley Transit, Appleton Public Library, and others.
Participants earn points for every completed mission, with opportunities to be entered into prize drawings throughout the challenge. Prizes include items such as gift cards, pool passes, golf opportunities, and other community experiences including ice cream with the Mayor.
The Discover Appleton Challenge is free to participate in and only requires a smartphone or Chromebook to get started. The program is sponsored by the Appleton Noon Optimist Club.
