KIMBERLY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — School leaders are reminding parents of their responsibility to supervise their children after a social media post claimed a teen was abducted by other teens during the “Fugitive Game.”
A post from the Kimberly Area School District Parents private Facebook group alleges a group of seniors tied up a freshman student, threw him in a trunk and took him to a cornfield, where he was left.
A statement from the Kimberly Area School District Friday emphasizes that the district does not sponsor, sanction or oversee the event.
“The behaviors described in recent posts are concerning and unacceptable. Bullying, harassment, hazing, intimidation, assault, property damage, and any conduct that threatens the safety or dignity of others are inconsistent with our expectations for students and are not condoned under any circumstances,” district officials said.
“During activities occurring outside of school, parents and guardians play an important role in supervising their children. We strongly encourage families to speak with their children about the serious risks associated with this activity and to discourage participation.”
The district said it would review any reports of student misconduct in accordance with district policies and the co-curricular code of conduct.
The district went on to encourage people to contact police if they believe a crime has been committed.
