(WTAQ-WLUK) — A Green Bay man was arrested in the U.P. after he allegedly stole a vehicle and kidnapped his roommate at knifepoint.
According to WLUC-TV, Michigan authorities were notified by the Green Bay Police Department Tuesday that 26-year-old Blaze Gugin allegedly stole a vehicle and was believed to be traveling to the Sault Ste. Marie area.
Troopers later found the stolen vehicle abandoned along the highway in Chippewa County.
Then troopers received a report of an individual who ran into the Dollar General store in Kincheloe and asked the cashier to call 911 because he had been kidnapped.
Gugin was found inside the nearby Pizza Patch restaurant in Kincheloe. Authorities took him into custody without incident.
According to Michigan State Police, Gugin stole the vehicle and told his adult male roommate to get into the car. Once inside the car, Gugin allegedly produced a knife and threatened to harm the roommate unless he went with him to Michigan.
The two traveled from Green Bay to Chippewa County. After the vehicle broke down, they reportedly hitchhiked to Kincheloe.
On Wednesday, Gugin was arraigned in the 91st District Court on charges of unlawful imprisonment and receiving and concealing stolen property – motor vehicle. His bond was set at $250,000 cash. Gugin is expected to return to a Michigan court on June 22.
The owner of the vehicle has been notified of its recovery.
