GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Long Thao was charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide for allegedly shooting his brother in the back during an argument early Saturday morning in the parking garage at the Oneida Casino.
Thao, 39, faces five counts in all, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possessing a firearm contrary to a court injunction. He appeared in court Monday, where a $750,000 cash bond was set.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to the parking garage about 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
When police interviewed the victim, he said he and Thao had been drinking, and they started arguing about the “history between the two of us.” They left the casino and headed to the parking ramp.
“While we were talking Long opened his driver’s side door. I observed Long grab a handgun, and ‘cocked’ it. The firearm was smaller, chrome and shiny. I didn’t believe this was Long’s firearm. I told Long, ‘what are you going to do with that gun.’ I told Long that ‘I’m not dealing with this right now.’ I turned around to walk away. I took two steps and Long shot me in the back,” the victim told police. “Long then stood over me, and pointed the firearm at my head. The gun was 3ft away from my head. I told Long ‘I love you.’ I thought I was going to die. Long’s intentions were to kill me. Long very intentionally shot me to end my life. Long walked to the vehicle, put the gun away and drove away.”
The victim said Long had 12 shots of tequila and two margaritas. The complaint does not say how many drinks the victim had.
Police tracked Long, and later arrested him after a chase. Long did not want to answer any questions, and told police he was “too (expletive) up” to understand his Miranda rights.
A blood draw was performed but no results are cited in the complaint.
Court orders from a 2016 felony conviction and 2026 domestic abuse case prohibited Thao from having a gun, the complaint states.
Thao returns to court July 22.
