(WTAQ-WLUK) — The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) sent $38,181,592 in payments to fire departments across the state. Hundreds of Northeast Wisconsin fire departments for cities, villages, and towns are being awarded hundreds, in some cases thousands of dollars.
The money comes from the 2% Fire Dues program. The program requires insurers to pay the state 2% of premiums collected for insurance against loss for a fire. The Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance collects dues from insurers, which is then passed on to the DSPS for distribution based on a prescribed formula.
A full list of the distributions to each fire department can be found below:
“Every dollar distributed through the Fire Dues program is an investment in safer communities, better equipped firefighters, and stronger emergency response capabilities. DSPS is proud to play a role in these efforts,” said DSPS Secretary Dan Hereth in a news release.
The $38M represents a 6% increased total over the 2025 distribution.
