(WTAQ-WLUK) — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services announced some Medicaid recipients on the state’s Supplemental Security Income program had letters with personal information sent to their previous addresses.
The letters were sent to notify recipients of an increase in benefits.
DHS says the discovery was made at the end of April. It says it immediately identified those who had the letter sent to the incorrect address and halted future mailing there.
DHS notified 8,157 Supplemental Security Income members their information may have been accessed by unauthorized individuals Tuesday.
The department says those members were offered free credit monitoring for a year and provided access to a dedicated call center to answer questions they have.
It advises affected members can call 833-857-0804 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with questions.
