MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The resource distribution site at the former UW-Oshkosh Fox Cities campus—also known as the Volunteer Reception Center—will close Sunday, the city of Menasha confirmed. Donations will no longer be accepted at the former campus after 5:00 p.m.
The city is still offering those resources, however in a news release the city said resources are being moved to sites closer to the areas impacted by Monday’s tornado.
Targeted donation requests for specific supplies will be shared through Volunteer Fox Cities and other official channels.
The city also encourages those who would still like to donate items to support local food pantries and established community organizations. Menasha says monetary donations are one of the most effective ways to help. It encourages anyone to donate to United Way Fox Cities’ tornado relief fund.
Menasha announced a change to future volunteer operations as well Sunday.
Beginning after 5:00 p.m. Monday, the Volunteer Reception Center will also transition from focusing on large-scale public volunteer operations to supporting specialized volunteer assignments. Thus, the general public is also not asked to report to the former UW-Oshkosh Fox Cities campus starting Tuesday.
The campus will still be used to coordinated specialized volunteers, previously organized volunteer groups, and other targeted recovery needs. However, if large-scale volunteer assistance is needed, the City of Menasha, Winnebago County, and Volunteer Fox Cities will put a call out through its communication channels.
The city stressed, the transition to specialized volunteer operations does not mean volunteer support is no longer needed. The change is to make sure recovery groups better match volunteers with the needs of affected residents and neighborhoods.
