MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Even with a change in attorney, Katrina Baur remains on schedule to go to trial in spring for her alleged role in the treatment and subsequent death of her son, Elijah Vue, her new attorney said Thursday.
Baur faces four charges in connection with the treatment, disappearance, and subsequent death of the 3-year-old boy.
Her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, is charged with physical abuse of a child – causing death and hiding a corpse. A two-and-half-week trial for both is scheduled to begin April 14, 2027.
After some wrangling about who would represent Baur, Thursday’s hearing was the first with her new attorneys, Abigail Ruckdashel and Russell Jones.
Ruckdashel said they are continuing to review the evidence, but said they will be ready for the April trial.
Baur did not participate in Thursday’s hearing.
Vang returns to court Sept. 18, when the judge is expected to rule on what expert testimony, if any, will be allowed on evidence the state wants to introduce about the similarities of geologic materials found where Elijah Vue’s body was found to a mixture of sand and gravel used to treat sidewalks found in containers near Vang’s home.
Prosecutors allege Baur sent her son to live with Vang at his Two Rivers apartment for “disciplinary reasons.” Vang reported Vue missing Feb. 20, 2024, and an Amber Alert was issued.
Months later, on Sept. 7, a man preparing his land for hunting season found human remains on private property near the entrance of Camp Manitou, a Girl Scout camp. Those remains were positively identified as Vue’s.
