LITTLE CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Little Chute clerk sent out absentee ballots without a required initialing. The ballots will still be counted, however, and voters have other options.
Clerk Nicole Ryerson said 530 ballots were mailed without her signature, due to an oversight during the process.
After consulting with the Wisconsin Elections Commission, Ryerson said voters have several options:
- The ballots can be returned by mail, and if received on time, will still be counted. Poll workers will have a list of the impacted ballots to check, but because the error wasn’t by the voter, it will still count.
- Voters can request a new absentee ballot
- Voters can in-person absentee vote ahead of the election
- Voters can vote on Election Day
The mailed ballots would not be initialed after being returned, because that’s not part of the required sequence of events, Ryerson said.
The village was advised not to automatically send a new, initialed ballot, because the ballots can still be used, she said.
