OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A 16-year-old student who had a handgun in his backpack was arrested Wednesday morning at Oshkosh North High School.
Officer Kate Mann of the Oshkosh Police Department says around 9:20 a.m., staff members notified a school resource officer that they had heard a student may have a gun at school.
Within about 20 minutes, the student was arrested. A handgun was found in the backpack he was wearing.
Officers also received information that a second student, a 17-year-old, may also have had a gun. Police are still searching for that student and the possible gun.
The building was evacuated and students were taken to West High School to be reunited with their families.
Police say they will release more information this afternoon.
