ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An act of violence caught on video at Ashwaubenon’s Parkview Middle School is making the rounds on social media.
Local police are now handling the incident.
The video taken inside the school shows a student pulling another student to the ground by the hair.
It happened on Sept. 17, according to Ashwaubenon Public Safety.
The department is now investigating the incident.
“So now we’re kind of coordinating with both the juvenile intake or juvenile justice system and the juvenile courts, as well as municipal and village courts and trying to determine what best course of action we are going to take in this,” Ashwaubenon Public Safety Deputy Chief Nick Kozloski said.
Kozloski said some charges have already been filed against the suspect.
He wasn’t able to say exactly what the charges are since it’s still early in the investigation, but is confident more will come.
In a statement, Ashwaubenon School District superintendent Andrew Bake said:
We have been actively addressing the incident involving students that occurred at Parkview Middle School last Thursday. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priorities.
Because this matter involves minor students, we are committed to protecting their privacy and maintaining confidentiality as required by law. For that reason, we cannot comment on specific details of the incident or actions that have been taken. We have been in ongoing communication with the families directly involved. We appreciate the understanding of our community and the media.
It’s not clear what the student’s motive was.
Currently, Parkview’s School Resource Officer is interviewing witnesses, the suspect and the victim.
Kozloski said occurrences like this are rare, but emphasizes the importance of reporting bullying like this.
“We take all the complaints like this, whether they’re caught on video or not seriously, because schools are a place where children should feel safe. So if this kind of thing is happening, we have to stop that right away,” Kozloski said.
Kozloski said parents should talk with their kids about bullying and encourage them to speak up to an adult if they see something wrong.
The victim’s family is waiting to see how the district handles the incident.
