MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Musicians, comedians, vendors and business owners are coming together for the community Saturday. Rally for the Valley is expected to be a boost for those who were impacted by the July 27th tornado.
Preparations are underway in downtown Menasha as the city prepares to play host to Rally for the Valley this weekend.
Comedians, like Charlie Berens will be one hand. Soul Asylum, Fountains of Wayne, and Cory Chisel just a few of the musical acts set to perform.
“I think what you can expect is a really fun big party with great music, some beer, food vendors, some other community vendors as well, and just lots of fun entertainment and togetherness for the community,” said Adrienne Palm, a member of the organizing committee.
The free community event, organized by Fox Valley natives who wanted to help tornado victims, is an opportunity for people to come together — step away from the destruction left behind by the tornado and spend time with family, friends, and neighbors.
Organizers want people to have fun, but Menasha Police say keep the coolers and chairs at home.
No outside alcohol, no glass containers or pets will be allowed in the event space. And with very limited parking and large crowds expected when the event starts at 2 p.m. on Main Street, people are encouraged to plan ahead.
“Follow the social media pages to stay up to date on what’s going on with traffic and stuff like that. There are going to be road closures, so pay attention to that and just please bring patience,” added Matt Roe with Menasha Police.
While Rally for the Valley is a celebration it is also a fundraiser for three organizations that are helping people impacted by the tornado.
Palm said, “LEAVEN, Habitat for Humanity, the Greater Fox Cities Habitat for Humanity, as well as Pillars, all three of them are responding in different, but all very important ways to this disaster. And so we think it’s important to give people the option to choose where their money goes. So there are direct links to give leading up to the event and there will also be opportunities to give at the event.”
With a half a million dollars already raised, ahead of Rally for the Valley, organizers are excited to see that number grow as people come together to just have a little fun on Saturday.
Volunteers are still needed for Saturday. People interested in helping can register on the Rally for the Valley website.
