GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Green Bay City Council President Alyssa Proffitt says she will announce her candidacy for mayor. Proffitt represents District 7 and was first elected to city council in 2024. She was named President in 2026.
Proffitt will hold a press conference this Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Joannes Park. She says she’ll be joined by community leaders and supporters who will speak about her leadership and vision for the future of Green Bay.
Proffitt said in a statement:
I love Green Bay. It’s my home, the community that shaped me, and the place I’ve chosen to raise my family. Serving as your City Council President has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.
Together, we’ve accomplished a lot, and I’m proud of what we’ve built. But I also know there’s more work to do. I’m running to build on that progress, bring new energy and ideas to the work ahead, and continue leading Green Bay toward an even stronger future over the next four years.
Proffitt joins former Mayor Jim Schmitt as official candidates in the race. Schmitt served four terms as Green Bay’s mayor from 2003 to 2019.
Mayor Eric Genrich announced he wouldn’t be running for reelection last week.
“While I am as passionate today as I have ever been about public service, and I have never been more confident in the future we share as a community, this chapter with me as your Mayor will come to an end in April,” Genrich said in a statement. “That is just a change in roles, though, as I will never stop caring about this city.”
The mayoral race will be decided April 6, 2027.
