WRIGHTSTOWN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — We Energies is proposing a 750-megawatt natural gas power plant at its existing Fox Energy Center in Wrightstown.
The company’s engineering plan submitted to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission says site development is projected to begin in the second quarter of 2029 with the plant expected to operate in late 2032.
The plan describes it as a combined-cycle facility that would use a combustion turbine, a heat-recovery steam generator and a steam turbine.
This plan comes as We Energies says data centers and manufacturers are investing in its service area and that it expects significant growth in electricity demand. The engineering plan does not identify a specific data center that could use the plant’s power or estimate how much of its output could serve data centers.
The plan identifies 22 wetlands on the property and anticipates some impacts. The company says it will work with state and federal agencies to determine required permits.
The engineering plan is an early step in the review process. We Energies says it plans to submit a formal application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity within 60 days of filing the plan, which was dated Oct. 1.
