GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Brown County Supv. Patrick Evans is considering a run for Green Bay mayor in next spring’s election.
Evans announced Monday he was forming an exploratory team to evaluate a possible campaign. The team will also compile a list of top issues in the city, possibly including homelessness, affordable housing opportunities, roads and infrastructure, the city budget, property and wheel taxes, economic development, and public safety.
Evans has run for mayor before, losing the 2019 primary election to Patrick Buckley and eventual Mayor Eric Genrich.
Evans has degrees in business and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and a master’s in organizational leadership and quality from Marina University. Evans has been president of the St. Mary’s Hospital Credit Union and co-owner of ITEQ, an international consulting firm based in São Paulo, Brazil, and Monterrey, Mexico. Evans currently works as a substitute teacher.
At least three candidates have already announced runs. Former Mayor Jim Schmitt, city council president Alyssa Proffitt and past city council candidate John Plageman have all thrown their hats into the ring.
State Rep. Amaad Rivera-Wagner, a Democrat who served as Genrich’s chief of staff, and Ald. Kathy Hinkfuss have said they will consider runs for the position as well.
Genrich announced earlier this month that he would not seek reelection to a third term.
The general election is set for April 6. If more than two candidates are in the race, a primary would be held Feb. 16.
