BROTHERTOWN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Wisconsin Historical Society marker was unveiled in Brothertown Saturday morning.
The marker can be seen at the the Brothertown Cultural Center. It’s on reservation land owned by the Brothertown Indian Nation.
One side of the marker honors the Brothertown Methodist Episcopal Church. The other honors composer and native leader Thomas Commuck.
Amy Besaw Medford discussed the importance of sharing this history.
“The Brothertown Indians have had a lasting imprint on the Wisconsin territory. And we’ve got interesting stories to tell and we’re excited to make sure that they’re not forgotten,” Besaw Medford said.
This is the second historical marker in Brothertown. Local historians hope to add many more.
