MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Rising mortgage rates contributed to a drop in home sales and a slowdown in prices last month in Wisconsin, real estate agents say.
The Wisconsin Realtors Association reported a 2.4% drop in existing home sales in September compared to the same month in 2025. Meanwhile, the median price rose 1.5% to $342,000.
“Mortgage rates have reached their highest level since January 2025,” WRA president/CEO Tom Larson said in a news release. “If these trends continue, both buyers and sellers will be affected. Specifically, lower affordability obviously hurts buyers, and higher rates also keep potential sellers from listing their homes because they don’t want to give up the very favorable rates locked in over the last six years.”
In the northeast region, sales were down 3.3%, while the median price rose 3.1% to $330,000.
