GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — During Thursday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, the Green Bay Packers honored former President and C-E-O, Bob Harlan. Harlan worked in the Packers organization for 37 years.
“On behalf of my mom and our family, our gratitude is immeasurable. My dad would be so humbled by this moment,” said Bob Harlan’s son, Kevin.
Bob Harlan’s name has officially been added to the façade inside Lambeau Field. It sits right next to Ted Thompson, one of two general managers he hired, who helped bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay.
“Bob was a transformational leader for the Packers. He restored us to competitive greatness both on and off the field,” said Green Bay Packers President and CEO, Ed Policy.
Bob Harlan oversaw many winning seasons, a Super Bowl and the renovation of Lambeau Field. His son, Kevin, says his dad would attribute those to the thousands of people who have contributed to the organization.
“I know he would probably say if he were here, I want to get these 30 people and this group and these folks and all the people that have made the Packers what they are over all these many, many decades. His whole motto was everybody here is on equal footing. From our head coach down to the person who sorts mail. He treated everybody the same.”
A sentiment his former employee Mark Schieffelbein agrees with.
“Bob made you feel so special as an employee. I think Bob, knowing Bob, he was probably the most humble man. I think deep down he would be very proud that his name is up there, but I know he’d be sheepish about it too,” said Schieffelbein.
Harlan’s name now immortalized inside what his son Kevin called the most historic venue and home to the most unique story in football.
Harlan died on March 5. He was 89 years old.
