(UW ATHLETICS) MINNEAPOLIS – Bruno Idžan scored the shootout winner to give No. 1 Wisconsin the extra conference point against No. 18 Minnesota at 3M Arena at Mariucci on Thursday.
The first period started with an early major penalty against Grady Deering, and the Gophers capitalized with the first goal of the night on a quick wrister that deflected off a Badger stick.
The Badgers came out with a ton of energy and found a rhythm in the Gophers’ zone during the second period. Freshman forward Zach Wooten got them going, sniping the puck in on a pass from JJ Wiebusch, who got the puck in the trapezoid.
The third period brought much of the same energy. Wisconsin outshot Minnesota 11-2, but couldn’t find the winner in regulation.
Neither team scored in the first overtime.
In the shootout, Idžan went first for the Badgers, stickhandling the puck around goaltender Luca Di Pasquo to score. Alexis Cournoyer then stopped all three Minnesota shooters, sealing the extra conference point for Wisconsin.
