MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – After a judge ruled certain evidence would be allowed in his case, former Mishicot teacher Ryan Schroeder pleaded guilty Thursday to having sex with a student.
Schroeder, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of repeated sexual assault of a child, at least three violations. Eighteen other counts were dismissed. Sentencing will be July 22.
The state and defense will make a joint sentencing recommendation of 15 years in prison and 15 years on extended supervision, Assistant District Attorney Angelina Scarpelli said.
The defense filed a motion, arguing certain evidence shouldn’t be allowed at trial due to a violation of Schroeder’s Miranda rights. But in a ruling from the bench Thursday, Judge Mark Rohrer
According to the criminal complaint, the encounters between Schroeder and the student started around Aug. 1, 2023, and continued into 2025. The girl was 14 when the assaults began.
Schroeder admitted he was having sexual intercourse with VICTIM 1 since 2023, continuously through 2025, and most recently at the end of March 2025. Schroeder admitted having sexual intercourse with VICTIM 1 over 50 separate times with VICTIM 1 from 2023-2025. Schroeder admitted to having sexual intercourse with VICTIM 1 inside of Mishicot High School over 10 times from 2023-2025,” the complaint states.
Some videos show the two engaged in sexual activities. There are also “selfie” photos, showing the girl in various states of undress.
Separately, Schroeder was convicted in federal court of production of child pornography for recording an encounter with the girl. He will be sentenced June 16 on that count.
