(WTAQ-WLUK) — A state representative from the Fox Valley is retiring.
After more than three decades of public service, State Rep. Dean R. Kaufert (R – Neenah) says he will not seek reelection to the Wisconsin State Assembly.
“After a great deal of thought and reflection, there comes a time when you simply know it is time,” Kaufert said. “Family and health concerns have led me to this decision, but it is not one I make lightly. Representing the Fox Valley has been an honor and privilege.”
Kaufert’s career in public service spans over 38 years, including four years as an Alderman for the city of Neenah (1985–1991), 24 years as State Representative for the 55th District (1991–2014), 8 years as Mayor of the city of Neenah (2014–2022), and most recently 2 years as State Representative for the 53rd Assembly District (2024–2026).
Kaufert wrote:
I would like to thank my entire family for all their help and support over the years that has allowed me to do this job, especially my wife Renee, who was always there for me and allowed me to focus on the job of helping others.
It’s time to enjoy life, oversee our business and spend time with grandchildren. So, I leave public service quoting Patrick Swayze: I’VE HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE!!! Thank you and God Bless the Great State of Wisconsin and the United States of America.
Kaufert’s current term ends on Jan. 4, 2027.
